Wish I had gotten here a little earlier and stay a little longer.
32. Nadi, Fiji
I arrived in Fiji completely exhausted, and the tight schedule didn’t help either. By the time I booked the flight, I imagined Fiji would be somewhat like Tahiti, a small island on which there is an airport, a beach, and everything in proximity. I was wrong, once again. The airport is on a big island, with not much scenery to offer, while all the postcard views are to be found in the remote islands, hours away by a ferry that leaves once a day. So what does that mean? I lose the day of arrival and departure, plus the rather expensive ferry ride. My first impression of the country: friendly people mostly but deceptive ones also. Got short changed by the currency exchange, the taxi driver from the airport trying to charge me double, was told it’s unsafe to walk down the street at night. This could potentially be the worst combination of all possibilities but at least the one and only tour company which operates the ferry transportation is well organized. Also like how warm the water temperature is.
