So many tombs & mummies, stacked one next to another, even this enormous museum has problem dealing with overcapacity. Perhaps they can make a better use by leasing them to all the countries around the world?
11. Cairo, Egypt
Wasn’t gonna do another post for Egypt, but just realized I had written myself a short note on my way to Cairo.
After visiting the pyramids for one last time, I felt this uncanny feeling of relief from what I have released all the anger, disappointment I had accumulated over the past two days. It’s going to be a little more inconvenient, slightly more costly to travel around without what I’ve lost, but it won’t really affect the quality of time I’d have in my subsequent destinations. On my descent back down from the pyramids, I passed by a cleaner who politely said to me with a smile, “Hello sir, welcome to Egypt” as he did the day before when I reciprocated with a distressed look. It was that moment when I felt I was touched by his genuinely polite gesture. I turned back, walked back up to him, stuck a 20 Egyption pounds note in his pocket, thanked his service for cleaning people’s way. Then, an old camel man who was passing by started thanking for my kindness in return, and offered a free camel ride, which I had to refuse for being short of time. I don’t know if he would have asked for a tip at the end, but I felt I have regained the faith in humanity. This little incident poses the same old question to myself, why am I traveling? To visit all the famous places at the best deal through haggling and trying to avoid scams at all times, has that so far been a metric on how I evaluate each destination?
