10. Giza, Egypt
So finally here I am, probably the one place I had been looking forward to seeing for a long time. Due to its relative proximity to Europe, I’ve been putting it off for awhile, but now that I’m also considering moving away to another continent, I figured it may be sensible to begin my journey with Petra and the Pyramids.
At the first glimpse, it wasn’t like wow, this is the best thing I’ve ever seen, but rather hmm.. looks just in the photos. Guess I’ve seen too many of these ancient monuments in the past few years, that I’m not really getting impressed by even the world’s best. According to the study on science of happiness, continued pleasure will gradually fade off as my expectations will adjust rather quickly. So I come to realize 1) not to do this long term journey after this one, 2) not to focus my trips around these man-made structures(miswants), but rather natural explorations, 3) to spend some days doing nothing.
