Day 39 Penang
I don’t remember what got me to land in Penang rather than Kuala Lumpur given sheer number of budget flight connections, but it was a pleasant surprise. I absolutely adored this old port town. First Malaysia is far modernized than Indonesia or Sri Lanka, there was Uber operating all over the town, easily transported myself from the airport to the town with a driver fluent in English, who continued to entertain me with his old days as a sailor. Then after checking into Airbnb, I went out strolling around the old city. Got myself a sim card as my routine, found a street parlours on the way back, had a light meal. At around a dollar for a small portion of almost anything, I couldn’t believe how cheap everything was, even though Malaysian GDP was a degree higher than that of Indonesia or Sri Lanka.
