Day 63 Mauritius
Stranded in the middle of nowhere. This is what happens when a tourist takes off beaten path on a public transportation. Lucky there were some locals who drove out to see the sunset by the airport runway, and I met a family man who was courteous to give me a liftto my hotel.
Interesting about Mauritius was that most of its inhabitants who are of Indian origin, speak French as their native tongue, a bi-product of colonialism, English had brought indentured labourers from India to the newly acquired colony. I was amazed how one man has reshaped the course of history even in this distant land; Napoleon’s legacy remains far beyond Europe. The island had been ruled by four different colonial powers since the Portuguese discovery 5 centuries ago. Constant struggles followed afterwards including the extinction of the Dodo๐ฟ
