Hello Kutaisi!
And my lucky 77th country selection goes to #Georgia๐ฌ๐ช It may sound bizarre that I’m traveling again, but it’s Easter & I don’t my own place yet, so plenty of good excuses to do so since I won’t have a long weekend like this for some time.
Why Georgia? There were like 5 other countries which I wanted to visit that are closer, but with not so many destinations to choose from when it comes to flights from Berlin, I simply started going through Skyscanner search everywhere list, and voila there is the name I don’t even recognize. It’s a bit far away, but whatever, it was even cheaper than a train ride to Prague. All this spontaneity along with last minute bookings, it feels like I’m again on le tour de monde.
It was not easy getting here. Woke up at 6, but wasted some time trying to download the mobile ticket which seemed no longer available. Glad that I took a screenshot of the barcode which somehow got me all the way into the aircraft without actually having a full ticket. I kept missing the bus, half hourly train, then I got to the airport 45 minutes before the departure, the security checkin line was moving very slow, lucky that Wizzair didn’t close the gate until 5 minutes before, by which I managed to dash in. A series of steps going up & down, narrow corridors with pubs & shops, getting fined on train for not having the right ticket, I will be reminded of this day whenever I am in Schonefield, which is expect to stand for another decade.
After 4 hours flight, & another hour because the collectivo driver didn’t know where my hotel was & dropped me last, I managed to have my first proper Georgian cuisine, went upto Bagrati cathedral, then it starts pouring. It’s been raining all day, and expect to continue until the moment I hop onto the returning flight. It’s a proper rain compared to occasional drizzle in Berlin/London; now I know my Uniqlo jumper is also not waterproof. Must have been a stressful day for my body & mind, fell asleep upon getting back after a hot shower, wide awake following 4 hour nap, feeling indecisive at 11pm on whether I should go back to sleep or grab something to eat… (at Bagrati Cathedral)
