Knew I wouldn’t be impressed, together with my distaste for organized tours, it surely wasn’t worth the 8 hours on the bus ride. But it’s one of those places one’s got to visit, even knowing that it will lead to disappointment.

48. Halong Bay, Vietnam

I should have gone on this tour on my first day before, that was my thought when I saw the fellow passengers dropped off at the airport on the return bus from Sapa. As if 5 hour bus ride each way to/from Sapa was not enough, I booked a tour to Halong bay for the next day upon arrival in Hanoi. Then there was another hiccup with the hotel booking as they were overbooked, transfer to another hotel, a late supper, having to pack everything in the morning for a checkout before returning to the hotel I actually booked, the tour didn’t begin in the best condition. In fact, I have been tired every single day in Vietnam, unsure whether this is due to having to constantly avoid motorcycles even for a brief stroll or fatigue accumulated from long traveling. Perhaps 3 months is about time it takes to exhaust myself that I want to return back to normal life for awhile. The tour itself had various activities, but I didn’t find anything new really. The lunch was mediocre even though the tour agent told me it was upgraded for an extra $5, the islands looked similar to the those in Phang-nga where kayaks were also offered, the cave was smaller than the one I went to near Kutaisi. It’s somewhat evident that it’s time I stop searching for something new in traveling. (at Ha Long Bay)
