Drugs, sex, offensive language, nudity, violence, scandal, financial obstacles... What more can those high teen dramas provide that is shocking and also enticing to the viewers at the same time? Probably due to the fact that American television shows tend to be more conservative compared to their couterparts in Britain and in Europe in general, it should also be admitted that their creativity gets somewhat limited; however, the British drama, Skins clearly provides something more about the reality high school kids face each day.

From the modern 21st century reprisal of Beverly Hills to continuation of Josh Schwartz' high social nights of Manhattan's Upper East siders in midst of gossip wooers, American television viewers still receive well-done pieces of work which reflects American cultural dominance in media; nevertheless, I have grown bored with them. My personal favorite TV series these days would be the new third season of Skins on channel E4. Things just don't click like situations exaggerated in episodes of those American teen dramas, yet Skins nicely elaborates the realistic daily happenings teens go through, while adding on a bit of melancholy and a sense of humor. Not only it depicts reality to those daydreaming, it also provides lessons and ethical messages to both groups of adults and teenagers. The cast, led by gorgeous Effy (Kaya Scodelario), may not be fabulous as the overwhelming line-up the Gossip Girl has; however, it is covered with variety of characters reflecting wide diversity, not only in races but also in identity and cultural aspect, which Britain seems to be proud of. The latest episode featured two of the cast, both girls, kissing each other, making out at a park. That is just WOW to the lesbo-action. We shall see what more is to come as we go along the year.
