Spring/Summer 2009 Collection

The weather is getting warm and soon I will have to start loading my closet with spring clothes. This past winter has been great. I bought so many stuff which will long remain as part of my beloved favourites. Well, the new season is about to come. Forget the past season, and now is the time to start looking at the new collection before any gets sold out.  Now that the world has gone into a global recession cycle, for the spring and summer collection of 2009, designers responded with one way or the other. Either go gloomy with the flow or brighten things up.

Burberry Prorsum - Bailey did it again. The global society has gone through a tough year and Christopher Bailey has responded with a gloomy welcome for the warm season to come by. Still giving the sense of movement forward though, a good mixture of melancholy and highly fashionable style expressed. Truly magnificent.

Kenzo Homme - It is a shame that this brilliant lineup is still undervalued in Asian market. Continuing with the last season's bright oriental theme, Kenzo homme presents another season with its splendid line.

Miu Miu - Without the success of this radical and experimental line up by Miuccia Prada, how will ever the giant Prada group find its future direction and still retain its fairly premier value? Not enough though. Miu Miu line should become more detached from the style of its parent and follow its own direction.

Etro Milano - Again, another exuberant collection. In my opinion, Etro currently stands on the dead man zone. Either build up the stronger luxurious brand identity as it has done for the home collections, if not, focus on attracting younger generations. With its classic paisley originality, it still has a wide potential niche market for survival.

Say NO to mass production & popularity - In past few years, few designer clothings of instant success, namely Dior Homme and Paul Smith, had become increasingly popular that their quality of garments and the value of scarcity had just gone way too low. Especially, none of Kris Van Assche's line-up does not impress me at all, and I see no progress in style from season to season. I hope Burberry does not make the same mistakes in response to increasing demands on the Prorsum line.
